Letters written by Elizabeth Thompson Hurd of Charlestown, Mass., to her brother-in-law Dr. Henry Lyon of Charlestown, Mass., 17 Jan.- 27 June 1856, while on a tour of Europe. Letters pertain to experiences on her voyage and travels by coach and train of cities and towns in England, France, and Italy, including detailed descriptions of sights seen; time spent with friends and acquaintances; good and bad travel and lodging experiences; social engagements; various religious services attended; the weather; and customs and styles of the places visited. Also includes a letter written by Hurd to her niece Meggie, 21 Mar. 1856, and a bound copy of modern manuscript sheet music gathered and copied by Hurd, ca. 15 May- 17 Aug. 1830.
